Canon Vixia HF M301 Quality Test

Since I have a job now, I finally saved up enough money to buy myself a new camera. I got the Canon Vixia HF M301 at Costco for $300. The kit included the camera, a case, an 8 gig SD card, and an HDMi cable. I would highly recommend getting it from there.

These are a few test videos with zoom and instant auto focus that I filmed in a couple minutes around my house.

I remember I had that same problem as well. I can't exactly remember what I did to solve it, but don't get too frustrated. First what you should make sure of is that the camera shows up in your finder window/on your desktop. Then once in iMovie, hit the photo/video button. If that doesn't work, then I don't remember what should. However keep trying and eventually I'm sure everything will work smoothly. Thanks for the comment and hope it works out well! - DL

Beautiful! I just got one from Costco too and I'm still learning my way around it. Seems like a great camcorder so far!

@robstechnology It is very good with iMovie, all you have to do is plug in the cable to your camera and mac, and press the playback button and it comes up with the importer. It saves in .mov formats I believe. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

@TheMiswiredDroid Yes, I have used a Rhode Video Mic with it, it works very well.

@MisStookify I had this same problem as well. What you have to do is have iMovie open before connecting the camera. Then, when iMovie is fully loaded, connect the USB cable to your computer and press the button on the side where you can see your videos. (the one next to display). Once you press the button it should work for you, and then you can manually check the ones you want to import and they will do so. If you have any other problems, let me know! Hope this helps - DL

@DualLongboarding I was thinking of getting a microphone for it, does it have a built-in preamp? cause i have a vocal mic i would test it with.

I can't get this camera to be recognized by imovie. The camera says it is connected, but it doesn't automatically import and I can't manually import it from the drop down button. Ideas? My macbook pro is less than a year old.

Have you used any external microphones with it? cause I know it has a mic in plug.
