Is "require password protected sharing" not required ? If you specify a login account it should not matter

I had high hopes for this. I've created a virtual machine using Hyper V and I didn't think it would take me over 2 days to do something as simple as share files between my Host and my Virtual machine. I've corrupted many VM's already by trying to mount the Virtual drives. I've tried various folder shares and it always fails by saying username or password wrong. So this was my last hope but it just says username or password wrong. This should be built into Hyper V's functionality as it's such a basic requirement!

Hey Dude,

I too was trying to experiment the same but my requirement is to share multiple folders.
I have created 3 folders and 3 user credentials for each user. From a local machine, I'm able to login to one of the folders successfully and I'm getting "No permission" to the other two folders, which works so well. However, when I wanted to disconnect from the existing folder and try connecting to the other folder, i'm running into an issue. The credentials i have used to access the first folder are getting saved in the local machine. When I delete the network share or disconnect, it doesn't let me to connect to any of the other folders.
I have tried "net use * /delete" with no luck.
In order to access any of the other folders, I had to reboot my physical box.

Could you think of any solution? Appreciate your inputs.

I checked a lot of tutorial about this shared folder, no one mentioned about the user setup. Only you...

I have it all set up, but the other computer is not asking for the username and password, instead it automatically grants access. I have "Password protected sharing" enabled under "Advanced sharing settings". Why is this?

EDIT: it prompts for the username and password for a third computer. Perhaps the first two computers already recognize each other? The first two computers have the same username and password, and I'm hoping they don't test their own credentials automatically, otherwise that would be a security vulnerability.

It's funny that the advanced network settings are different for this latest fix over Microsoft's bafflingly difficult to understand rationale for security. Jesus! I just want to use the printer that's attached to the other computer in the next bedroom, and I have to do this?
