I'm in my 50s and worked as a software developer most of my career. I actually play games with the analog stick even when the original used the d-pad. Years of gaming/typing have worn out the knuckle on my left thumb, and I find it much more comfortable to use the analog stick. It takes that much *less* effort to go the direction you want to go, and the stick has some "give" that the d-pad doesn't. YMMV.

One thing I think is going on with these devices is: since they're retro game focused, they attract a large range of ages. Us older gamers - the ones that originally played consoles like the Atari 2600, want the larger screens. We're begging for them because our eye sight is horrible! LOL I'll probably by one of these, not only because I have a pile of them already and now I'm a "collector", but also because I love my Miyoo Mini Plus, and this is essentially one with a larger screen! Plus they're cheap. I can't go out and have dinner and drinks with a friend for what these cost. That's crazy.

Kinda surprised none of these portable emulators have a circle-pad like the 3DS. It was such a good solution and would probably fit in that SP.

Honestly, there is so much market saturation with these devices. It is sometimes hard to tell them apart anymore. I feel like if you already have a handheld device and you're happy with it, chances are you don't really need another one.

Heck, I've had a Steam Deck for a long time and picked up a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro afterwards, but, honestly, I rarely even touch the Retroid. I think the only reason I would buy a handheld device now would be to gift to a gaming friend.

I think anbernic is cashing in on that nostalgia factor people love these form factors. One of my childhood dreams was a device where I could play EVERYTHING Nintendo PlayStation Sega whatever and lo and behold look what we have now.

7:59 Fun fact: There's actually a bug in the dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure where the input code acts strange if it receives a consistent perfectly straight forward input. This is something you would only ever run into on emulators because a real dreamcast controller will never give perfect input like that.

Idk if this is also the case in SA2 or not

There's definitely a lot. It's great for hobbyists, but it's reaching choice paralysis to the same level as Linux distros. Always nice that forums etc. online are open to helping you pick though - to people trying to figure out what they want, I'd recommend asking for recommendations based on your wants on Reddit or something

40xx is hands down the best-looking device anbernic has put out. They do need to slow down, though, and I will probably be going with the retroid pocket mini instead.
