Ford Triton V10 Engine PROBLEM FIXED! [Full Time RV Living]

This video is an update to our earlier video where we shared the unfortunate news about the problem we were having with the Triton V10 engine in our Winnebago motorhome.

We had so many people reach out offering help, support and suggestions after we discovered the engine in our motorhome developed a knock. Ultimately, we took it to The Engine Builders, which is an engine specialty shop in Glendale, Arizona. It took about 5 minutes for Dave to diagnose the the problem. Dave's diagnosis was a failed piston due to overheating which was most likely caused by a faulty fuel injector on cylinder #7. The knocking sound heard in the first video was indeed the piston skirt slapping the cylinder wall! Though not a catastrophic failure, it certainly could have lead to serious problems if not corrected so we took Dave's advise and had them rebuild the engine. It took just four days for them to disassemble the front of the coach, remove and rebuild the engine, then reassemble the front of the coach! Not that is service!

A special THANK YOU to Greg, Kym, Dave & Freddy for doing such a great job getting our home back on the road!

We are Brian and Shawnna, a full time RV couple who enjoy the RV lifestyle. We are empty nesters who recently quit our corporate jobs, sold our home and auctioned off just about everything we own to live a simpler, more purposeful life in our RV. As Full Time RVers, our goal is to experience life and make awesome RV lifestyle videos for our community. We decided to "retire" from life as we knew it so we traded our stuff for experiences. We travel in a 2008 Winnebago Motorhome (RV) with a preference for RV boondocking. We vlog, blog and update social media with our RV travel experiences, advice and challenges with a goal of helping other RVers along the way - find beautiful places to stay and save money by seeking out low cost campgrounds and awesome boondocking sites. The RV life is a great life, but it's not without its challenges. We plan to share those with you and offer advice along the way.

I was multitasking while watching the beginning of this video... missed the caption that it was the OLD engine running, thought it was a diesel.. then read it’s a Triton V10 (like my coach). I had to rewind... thanks for sharing.

WOW, I just watched the 1st Video on engine breakdown, I left A 5* Rating So Informative, recommended not just for Rv’s . But I’m shopping and want to try to find the best Videos, that I can Walk along with So if / when this happens . My self looking at a very nice Jayco with the 2007 V10. 305. In a Ford 450 body 31.000 miles . I heard from the beginning get the RV Inspected, yes it will cost . Maybe up to $500.00 . I’ve already had one sold used dealer saying inspection? As if to say are’s go to fast for that I will go back to see their TRACK RECORD ! I’m retired disabled Vet So I don’t want the BIG SURPRISE , at lest not lied to, broke down, when in fact the Dealer Knew something was Wrong . This is Part #2 it is another 5* VIDEO. Full of information and advice . Pictures of the rebuild and How People should get a Warranty. Very Smart hope you enjoy as I have . Happy Trials GOD Bless.

Glad it’s all fixed and you are on your way. Just wanted to tell you about a mechanic who did a video on the Ford V10. His channel is just his name Steve Cox and the YT title is Are Ford V10 Engines Trash? That’s a come on title because although it’s a kind of rough video, he tells you why it’s still a good motor other than mileage. His engine has over 350, 000 miles on it. It’s like anything else, maintain it properly and you will be ok.I think you will find his discussion interesting. Happy New Year too!

I’m glad to see you got your rig repaired. It’s nice to see a shop like this take great pride in what they do. And I must say they gave you a great price.

Thank you for showing all the pictures of the breakdown and re-build. Fascinating stuff for us pilot chair motor heads! Kudos to the shop knowing they could remove the engine out the front of the rig by dis-assembling it. I think that's something your previous repair shops had no idea could be done. BTW- based on your reviews on the Letric e-bikes, we purchased 2 and had them delivered to the dealership in Mesa that is preparing our 5ver. We pick up Jan 6th - see you on the road!

What a treat to find someone who actually knows what the hell they are doing. Seems to be more and more rare.

6700 for a new engine and install is a really good deal. That shop has my vote.

That was nice of them to take pictures as they went along. I bet it gives peace of mind seeing the new parts and resurfacing. I will definitively use them if needed. The cost was much cheaper than your other quotes too.

That's good news for you, I know 6K unexpected is little pain, but now your good to go. I will keep the engine builders in mind and make sure my injectors are clean. Thanks for the update and info.

Excellent Video! I also have a v10 ford engine (2015) and so far it’s running well (32K Miles). I live in AZ so good to know this shop in Glendale can rebuild mine as well.

I am glad you got your motor all rebuilt. It looks like they did a great job. I personally love Ford. We have a diesel pusher, but we tow a Lincoln MKX. I hope you have safe and happy travels.

Thanks for the video. V10 are great engines we love ours. Just turned 200, 000 on the baby. They do have their issues but all engines do. Nice to know there are good shops out there.
