I had a friend who knew nothing about cars. He wouldn't know a starter from an alternator. He had trouble getting his truck to crank. Someone suggested tapping the starter. He nearly beat that poor alternator to death.

As a young mechanic I've been running Premium in all of my cars since my 1st car. Along with good maintenance all of the vehicles I have owned have treated me well.

My vehicle manual says to use 93 premium gas. So, that's what I use. Every oil change, I use full synthetic oil.

I once did a test of premium and regular in my old Ford Explorer. After running the numbers, I determined that the premium benefit was worth it if premium was not more than $.20 per gallon more expensive. Most of the time it’s more though.

I use Gumout fuel injector cleaner in my 94' Celica and it has over 342, 000 miles on it. It runs like a Top!

Destination charge is a scam. It's like buying a can of tuna at the grocery store and you pay for shipping.

If you tap the starter with a hammer while someone tries start it and it starts up this will confirm a bad starter.

To save you time,
When it comes to gas, check your recommended octane by the manufacturer.
If you got a $100, 000 sports car, premium gas might be required for proper engine performance.
But for 99% of average cars, regular is fine and you are wasting your money on premium gas.

My father owned a Volvo Twin Turbo XC90 with over 222, 000 miles on it. He never used 93 octane, never used synthetic oil, basically he doesn't believe in using the proper stuff to maintain the vehicle haha! Yes somehow, that thing made it to 222, 000 miles. What a legend.

I love seeing the Gilmore Gasoline sign behind you during this video. My grandfather came out to Southern California from Enid Oklahoma around 1920 or so and went to work building the crates they used to transport and store the bottles of oil in. He stayed with Gilmore all the way through the acquisition by SOCONY Vacuum and becoming Mobil gasoline. When he retired he was the Plant Manager of the Torrance, California Mobil Oil Refinery. He used to tell us about the old days of Gilmore Red Gasoline, where there was two different choices available. There was the Red Lion and the Blue Lion gasolines to choose from. He said that people would swear up and down the their vehicles would run better on one or the other, that there was a significant difference between the two "grades". M grandfather told us that the only difference was the color of the dye added to the gasoline.

Master Scotty is correct. For 10 years in Kansas, my 2008 scion xB was fed only BP regular, no added ethanol there at that time. Ran great. . . . 2018, moved to Iowa the corn state, where BP regular has added ethanol. After a few months, engine started to cough and stumble even on gentle acceleration. After months of this, switched to BP premium with no added ethanol. Engine problems cleared up after a few refuelings, and all is good again for past 3 years.

My car is tuned for 93 and I only use Mobil and Shell. Runs like a dream even with a lot of mods. Whatever makes your car happy, do it. The car will let you know.
