How Clean Are Soft Serve Ice Cream Machines?

At one ice cream shop in New York City, owner Jason Liu says one secret for great tasting soft ice cream is making sure the equipment is always clean and sanitized. “The cleaner the machine is, the better the ice cream actually comes out,” he told Inside Edition. But other places may not be as spotless. Pictures taken in Louisiana of a McDonald’s ice cream drip tray show it is covered with slimy filth. “I couldn't believe my eyes,” the employee who took the photos told Inside Edition. #InsideEdition

I worked at a froyo shop with these machines. We used to run hot water and cleaner through the machine at least 3 times every night, until the water runs clear. This was part of our main closing duty, so it really never got missed. It wasn’t that hard though, so the fact that this doesn’t get done at other places is gross

My first job at 16 was at a TCBY, the frozen yogurt place. The owner and manager were super nice and they had top notch standards. At closing every single night the store was cleaned, mopped, sanitized. Plus all 4 machines were drained and broken apart and cleaned and sanitized. It actually made me proud to work there cause I knew we were doing right by everyone.
