Video idea for you:
Hey @VidIQ, now that you've experimented with ads on your channel, can you run an experiment without the midroll ads - just keeping the ads at the start and stop of the video? Most of the biggest and fastest-growing creators in my niche don't use midroll ads as they feel lit hurts the viewer experience. (I would love to see if your experiment has had any effect on new:return viewer ratio)

Speaking about viewer experience. The current trend to frontload the ads (placing all the midroll ads as early in the video as possible so you get as much money as you can before the viewer clicks away) makes for a terrible viewing experience.

I've almost no incentive to watch tutorials (or any video over 8 min) on youtube anymore because chances are I have to plough through two or three ads before they get past the preamble.

Yes, I'm a big fan of compensating creators for what we create on youtube - but not to the point of driving viewers off the platform. Wouldn't it make more sense for higher quality content and mindful ad placement? Giving the viewer something valuable before stuffing commercials in their face? I imagine this would make for longer session watch time and better channel growth. As it is, it feels like people are compensating for poor-quality storytelling (aka poor retention) by stuffing as many ads at the start in hopes of making a few bucks off the poor viewer and tanking their retention rates even lower. (self-defeating spiral anyone?)
