Diddy Pays Sting $5,000 PER DAY For This Sample

Diddy has shown some love to Sting after revealing that he now pays the British rocker $5,000 per day for sampling The Police on his 1997 Biggie tribute, “I’ll Be Missing You.”

Sting clearly said that P Diddy got permission after the fact. The wise thing form P. Diddy to have done was to get permission before the release of the song, before it became a big record. He could've gotten away with a statutory royalty rate of somewhere between $.05 cents and $.07 cents and be done. Of course that would have accrued over the years to still being a nice check for Sting, but not nearly as much as he's having to pay out now.
