A short video submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the Degree of Master of Design Innovation at Victoria Univerity of Wellington. 2017.

The term ‘mediated reality’ was defined in 2002 by one of the godfathers of wearable technology known as Steve Mann . Mann stated that mediated reality is a “general framework for artificial modification of human perception by way of devices for augmenting, deliberately diminishing, and more generally, for otherwise altering sensory input.” Such devices include handheld and head mounted displays. Mediated reality is an umbrella term which collectively groups together realities such as AR, AV, MR, VR and also modulated reality and modulated virtuality. Each of these realities are explained in this video

Good work, this is still in 2021 a very helpful explanation for my studies in the field of multimedia production

Hi Andrew,

I like your presentation and that someone takes the time to explain the concepts and ideas in a nutshell. I'm always wondering when Mediated Reality will be more widely spread and known better - the idea of altering our reality, subtracting, filtering and changing our perception. For me, MR/MedR/etc. definitions out there are too limited to visual, which is a shame. Tricking other senses like audio or tactile should play a bigger part in these definitions, too!

Reg. your video: the sound could be a bit better next time. But keep spreading the word of AR/VR/MR/MedR! :-)

Cheers!

very interesting presentation. But S.A.R. Spatial Augmented Reality (Spatial Augmented Reality Merging Real and Virtual Worlds
Oliver Bimber, Ramesh Raskar - alias video mapping) is another form of augmented reality of which almost nobody talks about it.
