I didn't make this connection until seeing Coco, but at the end of the scene with this song, the bull dissolves into the marigold petals, and Manolo catches one. The bull gave him its blessing... Knowing this makes the whole scene even more amazing to me.

He's apologizing to a bull.. Which is really beautiful, and it is heartbreaking to see the shock from the others. They never would of done that, seeing that shock of Monolo caring for an animal shocked them which hurt me.. That bull had a right to live, we were not bred to fight. We were bred to live, and make the world better. Monolo really helped his town and family see that.

The way I see it Toro was consumed by his hate and anger and could not rest in peace until Manolo apologized for all the wrong doings of his family in the form of a song. Only then was Toro able to let go of all that hate and anger and finally rest in peace.

From what I had learned, to the director of this movie, this scene was the most important for two reasons:
One: This was not only an apology to the bulls that have been killed by the Sanchez family, it's also a long overdue apology to all bulls that have been killed by mankind, and that's understandable.
Two: This is Manolo's way of apologizing to his father, Carlos. He loves his family with all his heart, like us all, but he's bravely admitting he's just not like them, all he wants to do is follow his dream and anything else he wants, such as being with the love of his life.
THAT is something we can all understand and agree on, regardless of some idiots out there who act or think that stuff like that is nothing but weakness. Those who say or think any of that nonsense, THEY are the real weak ones! And if they don't like it, then they'll just have to DEAL WITH IT!

The thing that makes this song beautiful is that he is apologizing to all of the hundreds of bulls that were killed by his family. An apology long overdue, an apology sung from the heart...

This part remind's me of the lesson in The Tale of Despereaux, the lesson being " grief isn't the strongest thing a person can feel... it's forgiveness, because a single act of forgiveness can change everything".

Damn that hits hard. There's just so much violence nowadays and it's so normalized that my sense of humour is too dark and I find death amusing. This isn't normal and it shouldn't be. The sad part is that the senseless killing won't end and will most likely just get worse, and the generations after me are going to be even more fucked up than me because of it.

To be honest I wasn't really interested in the movie before. I've watched it for the first time just today, when I saw my family watching it on TV, and so I decided to join them. I'm angry at myself now. "Book of Life" is one of the best animated movies I've watched in my life. Truly amazing and with very important lessons to remember. I'm in love with it. Especially this song ♡
