Police officer Adhyl Polanco grew up with the constant crime and shootings of Washington Heights and always dreamt of becoming one of the "good guys." After the "1 arrest / 20 summons / 5 stop and frisks" monthly policy was mandated by the NYPD in 2009, Polanco reached a turning point in his career that compelled him to choose between his career and his morals.

Thank you for having the courage to go public and tell the truth to the world Officer Polanco. You will always be a New York City Police officer because you serve the people and not illegal quotas and orders. You are a national if not world hero and have earned a place in history unlike the thousands of officers who destroy people's lives daily for a paycheck. This was a great video, I thumbed up and shared on my Facebook and Twitter page.

in 2009 while in the 41 pct officer polanco brought these issues to internal affairs only to get tagged as a rat by his owns for standing up courageous. Days after he got suspended for trying to go with his ill partner to the hospital as his partner was having symptoms of a heart attack. grabbed by the chest by a supervisor he reported earlier as part of his iab report and striped of his gun and shield in the street. that was four years ago. A world of retaliations kept raining until today 12/20/2013 officer polanco got reinstated to the police force assigned to the 94 pct still very far from his home.... a true sample of what an individual can achieve with courage.. welcome back

I lost my respect for cops gradually. I saw them beat a man for "smelling like marijuana". I saw them beat a man who was not involved in a bar fight they came to break up. They beat the man and arrested him. Then when I was called as a witness, I saw and heard a cop lie on the stand. I do not trust police.

Stop and Frisk is bad enough but when you couple it with a Quota its down right criminal... I had been stopped and frisked a couple of times. I wasn't necessarily scared or disappointed by it. I would actually joke  "We know the drill". But once after sitting and waiting there about 15 minutes for them to run my name through the system Cop comes back and says "you're good but i gotta give you a disorderly conduct. I can't just go back to the captain empty handed. Don't worry it will get dropped when you show up to court". I was pissed and threatened to file complaints but never did it always felt like a waste of time. Cop must've had a change of heart bc when i went to court with my copy of the ticket the clerk told me the cop never put it in the system. Gave me a copy of a letter saying i had gone to court and everything was cleared just in case. I got off easy

So, every day NYPD officers have fill a quota of arrests, frisks and other things?
That is among the most stupidest things I have ever heard.

Mr. Polanco is absolutely right: You do not earn peoples' respect and trust by accusing them of something that they didn't do. I know they probably think it's preventive or something, but it undermines what every healthy police force needs to establish with people that they are supposed to "protect and serve": Trust.

The basis of what is stated in this video is 100% right on. I am a Police Officer, former Diplomat and come from a family of refuges from a former Communist countries. Having lived in several communist countries and with my background as a police officer here is my feeling. Many parts of America like New York, NJ, CT, MA, MD, CA, WA, IL, etc have become mild communistic police states. Many East European people are going back home and leaving New York America totally because they see what it is.

The New York City Police Dept.(NYPD) LAPD and others are operating in a similar manner to the old Soviet Militisa. The NYPD etc are Civilian Police Organizations
that have infact become a Defacto standing Army that makes up what it wants to do at it's whim. It has no respect for Americans Inalienable, 1st, 2nd, 4th or 5th, 14th Amendment Rights at all. It is easier for law abiding citizens of several European countries to get a Pistol License in their homelands than in NYC, NYS, NJ, CA, IL, DC etc.

So the only way cops will have empathy for the public is if they're rights are violated too when they're off duty. What goes around, comes around. That's what you get.

He's too honest to be a police officer

This doesn't just apply in the NYPD either, this happens the world over in developed countries and that is why this so relevant, because these countries pride themselves on their "human rights"

Wow, welcome to the police state of NY!! It's going to take true reform from the top down to ditch these policies and get back to what genuine police work SHOULD be. Good that videos like this, and movements like this are working on it.

It's all about "conditioning!"  Conditioning innocent civilians to exist in a police state.  Germany went through a phase like that?  Google it!  Why?  Because if you don't learn from history, then you're doomed to repeat it.

Not saying all but I definetly feel that the Police force has become less "Protect and Serve" and more "Protect and Serve ourselves"
