It's a New Year's gift that millions of film fans won't want to miss.Criterion is re-releasing cult high school classic The Breakfast Club with a whopping 50 minutes of never-before-seen footage on DVD and Blu-ray on January 2, according to Vulture on Thursday. The website premiered one sneak peek showing Molly Ringwald’s Claire Standish trying to bond with Ally Sheedy’s Allison Reynolds in the school bathroom. But she didn't meet with any success and was grossed out by Allison's deliberately disgusting habits. The late director John Hughes’ 1985 movie, set during a detention session at a high school, has been spruced up with 4K digital-restoration and there will also be interviews with cast members.Aside from Molly and Ally, the movie also introduced the then little known Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Anthony Michael Hall. All five later became known as the Brat Pack, a play on Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack. The coming-of-age comedy follows five teenagers, each members of different high school cliques, who spend a Saturday in detention together. They come to realize that they are all more than their respective stereotypes, while facing strict disciplinarian assistant principal Richard Vernon, played by Paul Gleason. The movie, budgeted at $1 million, made nearly $51.5million worldwide during its release, according to Box Office Mojo.
