Postwar Marx Clockwork Set Laps My Layout

In addition to modern command control trains, I also collect vintage mechanical sets. This Marx train has black plastic wheels, and twisted slot couplers and is probably from the late 1940s to mid 1950s time frame. It has the typical Marx clockwork motor with speed governor, ringing bell and a (many years worn out) flint sparking mechanism.

Since there's no "fat wheel" and no center pickups to bother with, these old clockworks run pretty nicely through the Fastrack and regular Lionel switches on my train layout. A strong windup can make a loop and a half around the table. Marx clockworks are very inexpensive at local train shows and make for interesting collectibles with unending variety!
