Woodturning - Well .... This Was Unexpected!

The pot is made from Black walnut and Cedar, with the dipper being last year's Christmas tree. All have been sanded to 3000 grit and finished with food-safe oil. I will have to wait and see if the cedar and black walnut changes the taste of the honey.

Let me know what you think of it!

My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

Beautiful piece for sure. I'm not sure what was unexpected about it, or was that just a click bait title?

That is an awesome piece. It takes some forethought to know how you are going to make it.

This video has given me some inspiration for a gift for my mother. She loves light houses, and the stripes reminded me of a light house. I may attempt to make a honey pot like this with a light house look. Thank you for sharing.

A good look to it, but I think the lid may become glued to the pot with honey. A little bit looser fit might be better.

Love the craftmanship, really beautifull piece.

But i dont understand the carving waste.. couldnt you get the same result with a stick half the tickness of the one you use??.
And also use your bandsaw to cut some of the corners of from the jar piece?

Im just trying to learn, this is not meant as critic but a question towards the process..

Wow very nice work .
Reminded me of when I was a school in the woodwork class our wood work teacher used to polish almost every thing with bees wax back then it was the only food safe polish there was . The smell of the bees wax has stayed with me all of my life from that point on I carry a coin of wax every where I go or have been .

Just like buttering bread for toast! So much for toast at tea. The striped container is really pretty, love the dark colored bands. Well WOW, that will hold a lot of honey! Nice work, it's art.
