The Irish government is on the brink of collapse after opposition party Fianna Fail said it would expel Deputy Prime Minister Frances Fitzgerald, and put a motion of no confidence before parliament on Tuesday. This came after Fitzgerald admitted she was made aware of an attempt to discredit a police whistleblower in a 2015 email, but failed to act. This move would break the cooperation agreement between the opposition party and Prime Minister Leo Varadkar's Fine Gael party, which enabled him to form a minority government 18 months ago.
