Planet Eclipse EMF100 Review

The MG100 is a crazy product for Planet Eclipse, it’s a departure from what they are used too. Since Eclipse’s introduction to the market, they have always made traditional style paintball guns, hoppers on top tanks on the back. So this move to mag-fed is a big step. It's a move that pushes Eclipse even closer to completing dominating the paintball gun market.

Instead of creating an entirely new marker, Eclipse smartly went with a system that they have used in the past, the Emek and GammaCore. The simplest ways to look explain the MG100 is that it is a mag-fed Emek.

The feature that I like the most is that you can use the MG in two different configurations mag-fed or hopper-fed. It's very easy to change around and makes the MG100 extremely versatile. The MG100 also accept First Strike rounds as well, so turning the marker into a sniper rifle is simple too.

As an ex-speedball tournament player who has switched to magfed exclusively I can say this gun is probably the smoothest and most quiet magfed gun out there. I play with an M17A2 primary and TiPX secondary, but I got to play with one of these as a demo not too long ago. It was surprising. An all around great marker. The only thing that doesn't do it for me is looks and the zeta mag style mag. For a primary I'd rather have a continuous feed mag, but give it some time and there may be an aftermarket solution for that.

I really hope this is the start of more big name companies coming out with magfed markers like you said.

I had a T15 when I got back into paintball, omg it was a pain I the ass, I took it back and went back to a standard PB marker. After a year I decided to give the MG100 a shot and damn it’s amazing. All I can say is if I had started with the MG100 I would have never left Magfed in the first place

The Emek and now the MG100 are THE markers I've been waiting for since I started playing back in 2000.
I love all forms of paintball but for a Mech, is there anything better than this?
Really...is there?

I used my MG100 with first strikes for the first time last week-end at Splat Tag's Giant big Game near Hudson WI. And it was the most fun I've had playing woods ball yet. It actually made me feel like we were playing renegade woods ball out in the country back in 1990. The limited rounds reminded me of when paintballs were sold in 10 round tubes, and you had to make the shots count. This paintball gun would be perfect for somewhat new players because of the ability to use a hopper, and test out the mag fed paintball. I hope Planet Eclipse develops a First Strike Round specific barrel, that would be awesome!

My biggest complaint is the switch from magfed to hopperfed. The plastic already has substantial wear from me prying the feed neck off. PE shoulda made this whole process tool less and just easier. Aside from that, it’s amazing and like ya said: just the best.

(I’ve had it pretty much since it came out and played with it 3 times and I’ve used both mags and hopper)

under the encouragement of a friend he made me try out his MG100 to give my T15 a rest, I will say it performances phenomenally! The mag changes are something to get used too! Also the cost of entry is a tad higher than a T15.

I will say, it’s got a lot of people interested in magfed, so that’s good.

I love my emek. Put a shorty Nemesis barrel on it and a 3D print stock on the tank. The thing is a lightweight smg that hasnt failed me yet. 1000 fsr and not a single break yet.

The price is real good, especially compared to a DAM. Dye really wanted to stick it to people from the start with that price listing...yeesh

Can the rails be removed to the extent that it would look more like a regular Emek that can take a magazine? And is the barrel any good compared to the Emek stock barrel?

Personally i think it has 2 problems 1 lack of 18-20 round mags, vs the x+x flip mags, Tippmann, MCS, Milsig, and FS all have more modern offerings in that field, sure the TMC mags are roundball only but still.

The other is price point, at it's base 450 price the start up cost (marker and around 5-6 mags) puts it inline with the "flagship" magfed markers like the T15, M5, and 468, while you could pick up a "starter" magfed package around a TMC, M17 or MCS conversion kit for less that that base price.

That said if i was in the market for a "marksman" marker and didn't want to hunt for a hammer 7 to mod, drop the $$ on a 468 bolt action or drop the $$$$ on a SAR-12, It would be my choice.

I love my t15! But It took a while to get it to be reliable and all the kinks worked out. I must buy the MG100 now....ugly in my opinion but having a marker that you don't have to worry about?? Sold! BTW love the videos! Keep it up!
