Actual mortarman here, you are correct. It essentially how it works. The round has a small amout of propellant in the round and then you place up to 4 "cheese charges" with more propellant to increase the range. Round is hung, then released. Round then goes down the tube and falls onto the firing pin.

The mortar rounds are like a toggle button, like a pen. Click a pen, then click it again but off a table then let go, if the spring is strong enough it wil, go further

That mortar may be useful to fire over smaller forts, especially if the rocket is modified to have a better spring!

That mortar is actually amazing. Also the flash bang should have a speaker that plays a high pitch sound to mimic the ringing in your ears after a flash
