Lyrics

Summer all over
Blame it on timing
Weakening August water
Loose-eyed in morning
Sunlight covered over
Wading in sight of fire

And we’re finally aligning
More than maybe I can choose

Soon as I knew you
All so wide open
Wading inside of fire
As if I just saw you
Cross Second Avenue
Wading in waist-high water

And I love you so violent
More than maybe I can do

Now we’re finally aligning
More than maybe I can choose

Usually FF tracks grow on me with time, but this one has had my heart since the first listen

“Now we’re finally aligning
More than maybe I can choose”
That line really hits different

This is one of the greatest album openers I've ever heard. Thank you.

I was just telling my boyfriend right before Shore released that Fleet Foxes have always represented Autumn for me, my favorite season. They both present tranquility, accepting inevitable change, being at peace with the moment you’re in and reflecting on what happened in your past. It’s a heavy but welcome and revelatory feeling. So it’s so fitting they released when they did, right at the crest of Summer becoming Fall, when we can come to accept this awful year and look forward to a better one.

My wife gifted me a show from this tour for a birthday..we took our 9 yr old boy. It was his first show. What a magical night. I hope the two of them understand what that night was to me.
I have lived a rich life.

This album feels like coming home after being lost at sea for a period of time unique to the listener. I can absolutely relate. I'm not quite at Shore yet, but I can see it...

A friend recommended this album to me tonight. I’m already hooked on the first 4 songs so it’s gonna take awhile to get through the whole album.

Best track for driving through fall leaves in Northern Michigan. Heaven.

Can you make a 10 min. version of this song? To be honest, 1 hour wouldn’t be enough. One of the greatest album openers of all time.

Crack-Up 2017: “But I can hear you, loud in the center. Aren't we made to be crowded together, like leaves?”

Shore 2020: “And were finally aligning, more than maybe I can choose.”

I was introduced to Fleet Foxes while living in the epic wilds of Oregon, wandering through endless green dripping rainforests that hide and hold you and nurture you back to life. They are gone to fire now, a reality I simply can’t hold the weight of. Anything Fleet Foxes bring me back there In my heart and mind, the only place those sacred breath-giving trees and beautiful animals exist now. It’s like a dream I never want to wake up from. Thank you!

So beautiful I’m crying. I’ve been having a horrible week. Caught Covid. Horrible symptoms. Stuck in isolation alone. But this song is a light of positivity. Thank you Fleet Foxes.

As soon as I hear Uwade’s voice tears come to my eyes. I’ve Pavlov’d myself. So beautiful.

I am speechless over this. It’s timeless. So needed right now in music.

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

How is this doing only 2.5 minutes long but I'm already crying by the first chorus?

Sometimes human beings are cappable to make such heart-warming and touching things like this... Those guitar chords, that epic crescendo, the strings and brass arrengements... those dreamy vocals... Shit! I'm still shocked this is a female voice instead of Robin Pecknold's vocals.

You know?I love 'Shore' in its entirety, but this breath taking opener is so addictive that I just can't help pushing the repeat button and go on.

This is exactly how Autumn sounds like.

Everyone whose lived through the horror that is 2020 needs to hear this song to realise there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Brilliant.
