The Swiss based Galatea Quartet has recorded an complete disc with works by Swiss-American Composer Ernest Bloch (1880-1959): "Landscapes". Bloch is primarily known as composer of cello pieces, such as "Prayer" (from the suite for cello and piano "From Jewish Life") or the famous "Schelomo" for cello and orchestra. One of the most famous Bloch pieces, "Prayer", is presented on this CD in a very striking version for solo cello and string quartet. This CD features also as a WORLD PREMIERE RECORDING an early string quartet from 1896. The recording was made using the original manuscript that is owned by the Bloch heirs. The CD has been awarded with the ECHO CLASSICAL prize 2012 ("Chamber music recording of the year - 20th/21th century").
