BREATHTAKING mountain drive! | Yankee Boy Basin, Colorado

Another trail scratched off our SW Colorado must drives. This is yet another way to access the San Juan wilderness from the offroad perspective. If you're in Ouray, I highly recommend it In! In comparison to the surrounding trails, I'd say this is on the easier side.

How far do you think that I can take my Ford SUV up this trail? From what I see it looks like I can get up a decent way before I need 4WD

What risk? I used to drive up in there a lot in my 1964 two wheel drive three speed International pickup. No lift kit. Never had a problem as long as I stayed on the road.

Question? I plan on hiking Mt. Sneffles this summer but how far up would you say I could make it with a 2WD sedan? I don’t plan on making it to yankee boy basin in my car but how close do you think I could I get to yankee boy basin?

I made the trip in an 2 door Oldsmobile Cutlass one time with my wife after we first got married. People in their Jeeps were looking at us kinda funny. The view is worth the drive for sure.

I’m about to head out there I have a question about that overhang at 0:34. It’s probably not as low as it looks but I have a 5th Gen 4Runner lifted 3 inches and will have a rooftop carrier on it that is about 4 inches higher than a milk crate… do you think it will clear??

We first drove the trails in this area in the early 1980's. It's my favorite place to go. We were there last September and an early snowstorm cancelled our Jeep plans. We did some hiking and went to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It was a great trip !
