Some quote from the dev in an interview recently:
“All the scenes here are drawn entirely from the creators’ minds and memories, without a trace of factual accuracy. As some casual viewers might put it, this is a full-blown display of ‘pure stereotypes.’”
“If we can’t satisfy all the perfectionists, then let’s make sure none of them are satisfied.”

It seemed like Asmongold initially didn't get the premise of this game in the beginning?

This is set in a parallel world, set in an imaginary 66th year of Emperor Showa's reign (he actually died in year 64 of his reign, so there was never a year of Showa 66) or a parallel 1991.

In this parallel world, the US had been largely or entirely bought and colonized by Japan during its bubble economy period where it was said that just the real estate in Tokyo was worth more than all the real estates in the US combined. But 10 years prior to the event of the story, a zombie apocalypse hit the US. The main character's sister disappeared and she set out on a road trip to look for her.

I was very close to breaking out to tears watching this because this just made remember a time where game developers just didn't give a fuck and just thought "imagine if we did this ridiculous thing, wouldn't it be insane?" and just rolled with it.

"he's a cowboy and a samurai"
while we learned pronouns, he studied the gun and the blade. the fastest quickdraw in the west and the east.

they actually did better history research than the assassin's creed. since most chinese game developer grow up watching japanese anime, manga, and porn.
as a matter of fact, most japanese in their 30s can probably recognize 90% of the references. talking about respecting history and culture, theyt obviously did better than Ubi.

The entire game is based on a meme: "The economic bubble in the Showa era in Japan was so massive that if you sold all the property in Tokyo, you'd have enough money to buy all of America."

This is shitposting of THE HIGHEST QUALITY.

The chinese imagining what the japanese imagine the US to be. This is fucking glorious. The memes alone make this worth it.

This is the single greatest argument in favor of cultural appropriation ever invented.

I never thought Chinese are this open, this is like the combination of Gin Tama and Scary Movie in a surprising way.
Over decades it was said they just borrow/copy/learn from US and Japan, they actually got the spirit. There is love and soul here, which haven't been seen in years.

Chinese developers have the right idea. Make interesting games about whatever you want, don't worry about offending anyone or avoiding stereotypes. Just make games that will sell well.

So... They did ZERO research to make sure this game was historically or culturally accurate, 90% of the characters depicted are blatant stereotypes, and the devs vowed that if anyone gets upset about it, they're not take any responsibility for it. So basically: This is the ANTI-DEI game.

Edit: I know a lot of people are suggesting that the game is well researched because of all the pop cultures references. That could be true, but the claims that they didn't do any research comes from an interview with the developers, stating that everything in the game was based on their own nostalgic memories as they grew up. If any "real" research was done, it would like to think it was probably nothing more than a 10 second search on Baidu or Bilibili just to confirm what some references to their memories.

Other than that: Some of "you people" in the comments need to take a chill pill. Not every disagreement needs to turn into a fight or a struggle session.

This is the most based game I've ever seen. It's silly as fuck. It leans hard into stereotypes and memes. No political pandering. Just a dumb concept made into a fun game.

I'm sold.
