COVID-19 – Gurkhas complete endurance march for Gloucestershire’s NHS heroes
Показать описание
British Gurkha soldiers serving with NATO in South West England have ‘virtually’ climbed the three highest peaks on Earth – to raise money and say ‘thank you’ to the National Health Service (NHS) in Gloucestershire.
The troops from the ARRC Support Battalion completed the 26-kilometre march – carrying traditional Nepalese 'doko' baskets filled with sand. Their bid started at dawn as they covered the distance of the combined heights of Mount Everest, K2 and Kanchenjunga.
The wife of one of the Gurkhas works as a nurse in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, and the soldiers were keen to show their appreciation for all the front-line staff who have worked throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
The primary role of the ARRC Support Battalion is to deliver force protection to the Headquarters of NATO's Allied Rapid Reaction Corps based in Gloucester.
