"In Another Country" is a poignant short story about the casualties of war, written by Noble Prize winner Ernest Hemingway, which deals with the experiences of an injured American army officer stranded and alienated in Italy who describes in first person narrative the events and the experiences of being rehabilitated during World War 1. It is a semi-autobiographical work of fiction.

Even though this is a poem about war but I fell asleep anyway. Not because I was bored, your voice just has that effect. I love this!

A deeply sorrowful tale, read eloquently. Thank you for this. It has much for anyone who has suffered deep loss. I listened the first time without looking at the visuals, so I could focus on the meaning. The second time I found the images complimented the tale nicely - well done; though I still recommend listeners hear it first while looking out the window, not at the pictures...

How can I forgive myself for omitting Robert Frost, William Carlos Williams, Ring Lardner, Isaac Bashevis Singer and Bernard Malamud from my list?
Ring was a friend of Scott Fitzgerald and wrote in an unforgettable American idiom.
Singer's short stories, often set in New York, are a bridge between the Old World and the New.
Malamud is my favourite postwar American fiction writer: I only wish I could find The Assistant and The Fixer on audio books (Stacey Keach recorded Hemingway stories.)
I am Scottish born and bred and love American literature. Someone told me there is an audio-online reading of Melville's Moby Dick with the wonderful Tilda Swinton as one of the readers. Anyway keep up the great work, Poetry Channel. We readers enjoy being read to as well !

You could almost believe that this was the voice of Ernest's first wife as she reads back what he had written that day.
