Yes! I caught the moment when a blue jay picks and flies off with two large acorns! I wonder, did this blue jay plant this oak tree over a decade ago?!
Featuring:
* Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) in the crow family, Corvidae, a very smart family of birds. Blue jays cache (store) many acorns and are credited with planting many oak forests.
* Burr Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) - Marco = large, karpos = fruit describing the largest acorns in North America which are important wildlife food. We did not plant this tree, but we heartily embrace the blue jay's work. We nurture many of the oak seedlings we find in our lawn. I guess that means squirrels will find us soon!
