I actually was prepared for a jump scare with the cut out behind Josh

I liked that they managed to fit *some* element of the Prey 2 twist into Prey 2017.
I never mourned the loss of Prey 2 though. It was such an ambitious concept and one that would have been extremely difficult to implement in a way that would have satisfied the fans.

That's a twist I'm surprised they never went for with Borderlands. It would be a way to canonize the New-U stations and add another dark twist to the series. That and Fallout 4. After quite a few hints, I thought of how interesting it'd be to be a Synth, and see everyone's shocked reactions when the Sole Survivor appears out of nowhere, none worse for the wear. Far as the actual twist and it's later reappearance Returnal, that sounds way too similar to have not been heavily borrowed from that article.
I'm still sad we never got Prey 2, especially as there were hints at alien tech, which to me sounded like Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, so I was super hyped.

Another neat parallel between OG Prey and Returnal is the use of Don't Fear the Reaper as a motif for the story and how death isn't the definitive end for the protagonist. I think about this OFTEN and how heartbreaking it was that we never got got Prey 2.

The death mechanic from the cancelled Prey 2 also sounds a lot like the one in Bioshock Infinite.

It seems you guys have been doing a few more videos like these (not lists), and I love them. I hadn't realized Prey 2 had gotten that far in development. One of the many "what might have been" game moments.

While I do really like the Prey reboot/sequel/whatever it was supposed to be, I would erase it from existence if it meant getting this Prey 2. It's not too often we get games based on bounty hunting, let along science fiction bounty hunting.

Idk which cancelation is worse, Prey 2 or Star Wars 1313

I loved the original Prey

The Bethesda well.... I couldn't even get 2 hours into it

Sounds like the movie Oblivion (2013) with Tom Cruse (and the Moon (2009), simillar but lower budget and different tone).

I live these new videos from Scott. I hope to see this turn in to a series.

That’s a pretty cool idea. It also makes you wonder what the end result would be if you manage to do a perfect run

I loved the original Prey, making a sci-fi game dipped in Native Americans folklore made everything stand out from the mass of generic FPS that made their way in the 2000's, I still play it today after 15 years, and its graphics aged very well I gotta say.

And for the record, since you mentioned Returnal, I think that game was intentionally homaging Prey in more ways than you think since there is an actual plot point connected to the song "Don't fear the reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult, a song that was featured in the end of Prey's first chapter and was a recurring theme during all the game.

When one game got cancelled, another became it's spiritual torch bearer

Rather poetic and fitting knowing these two games

I only played the Prey reboot, but that sounds pretty awesome. I did just read an article about the "original" take on Assassin's Creed 3 where they went off on a space ship at the end, I couldn't even imagine.

I'm glad they turned this into a Rick & Morty episode instead

Hey, WhatCulture Gaming, keep up the great content!

The Prey reboot, of course, ended with the mother of all plot twists: The player is a human-alien hybrid, the baddies have already taken over Earth, and the whole game was a simulation.

I mean, there's Axiom Verge which starts by showing that every time you die in the game you respawn as a clone of yourself. The twist is that...

SPOULERS

...you started off as a clone, with the original being the main villain.
