On November 15, 2016 an Boeing 777x had a massive landing gear failure. The aircraft was descending from 38,000 feet to 18,000 feet when the main landing gear failed and collapsed on two other gears below it. This caused total loss of control and forced the pilots to make an emergency landing in Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE).The cause of this incident is still under investigation but preliminary reports suggest that there may have been a design flaw with the 777x’s Landing Gear System which could have led to this catastrophic event.

The crew initiated the emergency evacuation sequence following the landing gear failure, and help was soon on the way. Boston Emergency Services responded rapidly and began managing the evacuation process. The majority of passengers were able to walk off the plane unassisted, with only four requiring medical attention. Seven crew members were also treated for minor injuries.
