One of the reasons football stars move to the U.S. is because they aren't as famous in the U.S. as they are in other parts of the world so they get some kind of chance to be normal again while still enjoying their money. I watch the World Cup every 4 years so I know who he is but my neighbors who don't follow european football have no idea who he is. When I go to my local gym here in the SF Bay Area during the world cup the gym doesn't give 2 cents about having the game on you have to ask them to put it on and if they do have it on they have it on the telemundo channel which is in Spanish as if only Spanish speakers watch the game while most gym members speak English, it drives me nuts. I'm already bilingual and there's multitudes of nationalities represented in the Bay and no way in hell am I going to learn everyone's language, maybe I'll pick up mandarin but that's it.

I have a winter residence South of this area and it's a common issue with living on the water. The islands such as Star Island in Miami, which is predominantly business magnates and stars, you can go right up to their property in a boat, so security is sacrificed. It's possible that they have their own security force, whether it be personal or their homes association, that patrols the intracoastal and water ways for those private neighborhoods.

He mentions "only" spending $10 million on the home, even though Messi's worth much more. I think this is probably a good value for the Messi family. He only has a few years left in his career, and who knows what their plans are once his career is over. Does he move back to Barcelona? Does he move down to Argentina? At $10 million I think the house has enough of a market for them to sell it quickly in the event that they decide to move in a few years.

This Florida residence is just a pitstop for Messi. He has many homes around the world and I don't think he wanted to buy a super extravagant house during his US stay that would only be very hard to resell due to ultrahigh price level.
