A steady majority of Brits regret brexit, but until recently most didn’t want a second referendum on the issue. However, new polling suggests that for the first time a majority of Brits are also in favour of a second referendum… but will it happen?

The night before brexit i watched a newscast Interview on our national program, there an british "expert" was asked what would happend if the UK would truly leave. In the end he said half jokingly that the first 10 years the UK would negotiate for a leave deal, would desperatly try for 10 years to somehow make the whole mess work and would spend the last 10 years to beg the EU for a re-entry.
I am beginning to believe that man was a prophet

As an EU citizen, I was sad to see the UK leave. But I also don't want them to get back in unless there is a huge majority of the UK population in favor. We just can't have a country constantly changing their mind on whether they want to be part of the Union or not.

A lot of people also don't realise how much of an advantage position the UK was in compared to other EU members. They got special treatment like being able to reject the euro, opt out of certain clauses, affected EU laws more than most member states, etc. If they were to rejoin, they'd have to go through a tedious and long process and abide by every rule since they no longer have the upper hand. They'd be in the same position as members like croatia

UK: Let's do another Referendum
The countries of the EU: You had a privileged spot in the EU with your currency etc and left, we can't trust you, don't bother

The UK can not decide to rejoin, only to apply and ask what the conditions would be. The arrogance of leaving and expecting continued special treatment can not be corrected by the arrogance of expecting to rejoin with special treatment

Why would the EU want to deal with that headache again.

Tories: Brexit was democratic!
People: we want another referendum.
Tories: No.

It's really funny to see that the main reason why the UK left the EU was because of the Migration crisis of 2015 (which was completely relatable) but then after all the cheep labor from eastern Europe left Britain they started to importing new cheap labor from third world countries which lead to even more migration of those than in the rest of the eu.

Problem is that to leave you only needed to win a referendum to leave. To get back in its not enough wanting to rejoin - remember how de Gaulle blocked the UK for years? Brexit won't be forgotten by EU leaders and the UK likely won't be welcomed anytime soon

They can hold all the referendums they want, but ALL EU nations would have to vote "yes." Good luck with that!

I'd be furious if I was Scottish and I had to vote on two Brexit referendums, but wasn't allowed a second independence referendum.

This is largely a moot point at the moment. The EU will need to decide whether they want the UK back in and in its current state, I doubt it.

Joining the EU will not change the UK's internal political and structural problems.
When the UK was a member of the EU, they often wanted the EU to pay money.
Then the UK decided to leave and become a third country. Now many in the UK are blaming the EU because of UK own political problems.
What will the UK blame the EU for when they rejoin?

Switzerland is not a member of the EU, but has strong treaties with the EU and accepts the rules of the game.
I've never heard a Swiss hold the EU responsible for internal politics.

As a EU citizen, I believe that having the UK leave the EU was at first a trauma, but, afterwards, it is like a liberation to more integration, always stopped by the "special" Britain...

As a person on the top end of the young voters bracket i fully understand why so many of us would rejoin the EU. I missed out on being old enough to vote in the referendum by only a few weeks and have felt like a lot of the backlash has been taken on by younger people as the uncertainty that has arisen will naturally affect those without established safety nets a lot more than those with them. Personally i do hope we rejoin eventually, though i wouldn't blame the EU if they said no

As a EU citizen who remembers Britain as nothing else but the literal brakes of the EU I am happy that they are out and I don't want them back in. When you know the history of Britain and the EU, long before it was even called the EU, you notice that the UK never wanted to be part of the EU, nor actually supporting the idea. All they wanted was to profit from it.

Even if there were another referendum, they would still have to reapply to join the E.U., and after all that happened, the chances of every single E.U. country agreeing is rather slim.

The EU would need assurance from the UK that you've sorted out your constituational issues that did lead to Brexit.

BREXIT WAS THE BEST ADVERTISEMENT THE EU COULD EVER HOPED FOR.

A common misconception, but a significant one:

THERE IS NO „RE-JOINING“ CLAUSE!

Britain could only „join again“ after a thorough investigation. But then, there’s little chance of receiving any preferential treatment:

- Gone would be the right to preserve the Pound Sterling as a national currency -> introducing Euro it is!

- Gone would be the hefty rebates of the Thatcher negotiations -> full member fees it is!

- Gone would be the Royal Bank and its fiscal independence -> ECB it is!

The EU is not a restaurant to go to only when the fridge is empty, you know?!
