A massive wildfire that ripped through Jasper, Alta., continues to burn out of control although fire activity has remained low in recent days due to cooler temperatures.

However, temperatures are expected to increase over the next couple of days, and Parks Canada officials warn that they expect crews will continue to battle the fire for at least the next three months.

Thirty per cent of the town’s structures have been destroyed, though critical structures such as the hospital, firehall and library remain standing.
Jasmine King reports from Hinton, Alta., with the latest on the fire fight.

Head of parks canada in jasper needs to resign immediately, this is 100% result of bad forest management practices in the park stretching back decades.

The largest fire in 100 years, so this has happened before and isn't because of global warming? If there's been fires this big before but this time there was a massive amount of dead trees caused by the pine beetle can we assume that fires are less now than back then?

I drove through Jasper just a week before the fires and it was really 🔥, my thoughts were hopefully nothing happens to this place. I spent a lot of time visiting as I grew up in the Edmonton area, now I live in BC where we are on fire watch seems like every single year. It is really sad that it takes so long to rebuild and I feel for everyone who loses there homes. Good luck to all who are suffering ❤

Listen to the firefighters who have lived through the fire Given that the lawyers for the Indigenous treaties has been delayed since 1850 and no Indigenous presence during the presser last week, ( press between federal and provincial leaders Mayor) I hope that the Alberta leader can uphold what she'd said she'd do. Given that Lytton is not even building yet, and it's been three years, nobody had so far, notified them for housing projects, or onsite living situation for them for as I am aware, , unless she's written it by her own hand, at what she's planning on doing, there's been no water containers on trains, or fire fighting apparatus there's been no 1000 drone water bucket brigade fight on these fires, some of these places where the fires are, are very remote, where fire fighters can't get go, so drone brigade could be useful. I appreciate that they contacted foreign International fire fighters, and totally appreciate what the current fire fighters are doing, we need to include Indigenous fire fighters, we need to include s in Fort Mac, the Lahaina fires, California fires. We need to find a better way. So many losses, grateful for fire fighters and their assistance to locala in fires in BC too. That's how I see it. Being remote doesn't mean out of sight.

Think about all the building lumber that could have been produced with all that prime timber.
