Here in the UK the word 'Pacifier' is a term given to anything that 'pacifies' so a dummy will pacify a baby for ex. hence the origination which is similar to a 'comforter'. Here in the UK it's a term rather than referring to one individual object. So anything that 'comforts' (usually a child) could be a comforter, so it is strange that in the states they call their quilt a 'comforter' lol

I think the IK equivalent of “homely” in the US would be “plain.” I’ve never heard it being associated with age at all or being rundown, it just means not attractive, but not as unattractive as “ugly, ” or if you’re speaking of a person and don’t want to sound insulting but are just trying to describe, you might say homely when you really mean truly unattractive. I don’t hear people of my generation (gen x) and younger say it though, so maybe that’s why you might think it’s associated with old.

FYI, Rugby is a popular sport in the US as well. But It's called the football instead.

Hooker that makes sense, a kinda. A hooker can be either male or female.

One thing I like about UK is that they’ve taken every sports very seriously. They are Football World Cup champion, Cricket World Cup champion, Rugby Champion. They play hockey, tennis very passionately. In Olympic they stand high.
