Fun fact: Muaythai was invented around the mid of 16th century in Ayutthaya period of Siam. (some says it can be traced back to 13th century). It developed from the battlefield tactics to make the soldiers as effective and deadly as possible, even without weapons. Muaythai is known as the “art of eight limbs” for the eight parts of the body that are used for striking and knock out the opponent: (for example fists, elbows, knees, and feet. etc.) This is the reason why Muaythai is so deadly powerful and brutal! (Recommend to watch Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior starring by Tony Jaa)

The origins of Muay Thai. It was created for use in past wars.
It is used as a murder weapon on the battlefield if you have to fight with your bare hands.

it's my favorite! I like boxing a lot too, but Muay Thai makes me feel so prepared, because I get to use my arms, legs, shins, elbows, knees. It's great! Shins get so bruised the first week though 😂

Very interesting thanks for sharing.
It would be great to have similar intro overviews for other martial arts (for example, I hadn't heard of, or seen, Taido, until recently and an intro video. It's a fascinating art that has has some very interesting concepts and techniques. And I had no idea of the range of Indian martial arts).

I want to start a martial art and muay thai is the one I would like to do.

But you guys have experience, would you recommend muay thai to someone who wants to start a martial art at the age of 31? I do a lot of sport already.

I think the rules like no kicks to the knee make it safer then mma for example, on the other hand it is often described as being very brutal.

I don't expect an easy sport and I am willing to dedicate myself to it approprietly but I don't want my body to wear down more then it does benefit me, you know what i mean?

Thanks for any answer in advance!

As a kid I been learning Muay boran and muay thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a very long time since I was 6 years old with my dad and I still practice them all of the time and Everytime I train it spar with a opponents I prefer to wear the ropes not boxing gloves because I like using the ropes more because I like to stick with the traditional martial arts of Thailand
