Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom was thrilled to be asked by Sport Chek to surprise a young aspiring goalie and outfit him in all new gear, as part of their charitable Jumpstart program. At just 14 years old, Mathew is already 6-foot-1 and quickly growing out of all the gear he previously owned.

Jumpstart is a national charitable program that helps financially disadvantaged kids participate in organized sports and recreation across Canada.

Since 2005 Jumpstart has helped over 958,000 children between the ages of 4 and 18. This year Jumpstart will be helping their 1 millionth child get out and get active in organized sport.

How can anyone give this a thumbs down. This was a nice thing to do although it is also done by the customers that donated to jumpstart and not out of the pockets of Sportchek.

This is great man, it really helps people stay playing hockey cause it's so damn expensive. I'm a hockey fanatic and I've never been on the ice, I watch countless games and I play as much ball hockey as i can but it's not enough cause in Toronto everyone's hopping on that basketball bandwagon. This initiative is great, there's gonna be more and more stars coming into the league 5-10 years from now who were funded by these charitable acts of kindness.

Super nice of them... But man if that would have happened to me at 14... I would have been doing the happy dance on top of that fitting bench.. Probably stripped my shirt off and did laps in the store singing the best day ever song. I think there should have been some tears of joy and screaming and yelling from that lucky kid. :D

Really cool. After a year of clinics I had to stop because gear in the early 90's was too expensive for our family. Not too mention the ice time fees and league fees.
