Exercise 11a Q. No. 5 & 6, Simple Equation, New Countdown Math Class 7th (2022),
Simple equation
Two algebraic expressions connected by a sign of equality constitute an algebraic equation.
If the equality of the two sides of an algebraic equation does not depend on the values of the symbols used (i e. the two sides are always equal whatever the values of the symbols), then the equation produces to an identity.
The variables for which a value is to be determined is termed as the unknown quantity of the equation.
The value of the unknown quantity satisfying the equality of both the sides of the equation is known as a root of the equation.
A first degree equation involving only one unknown quantity is known as a simple equation.
When equal quantities are added to equal quantities, the results are also equal.
When equal quantities are subtracted from equal quantities, the remainder are also equal.
When equal quantities are multiplied by equal quantities, the products are equal.
When equal quantities are divided by equal quantities, the quotients are also equal.
Any term of an equation can be transferred from one side to the other with a change of sign. This process is known as transposition.
The index of the power of the unknown quantity appearing in an algebraic equation determines its degree.
