As with every reaction we do This is not an endorsement of the genre, the song or even the artists themselves. That is a matter of conscience. Our goal is to listen to each piece openly and objectively. Pointing out where it presents truth and error from a Christian worldview. This exercise is solely to help develop discernment and to show the often erroneous view the secular world has of Christianity as well as where they unintentionally get it right. It is important to note that we believe pure truth can only be found in Gods word.

‘I don’t know why I’m so attracted to the drummer in this song’.

Just Danny Carey. It’s a totally normal reaction, no cause for alarm.

Really great video, I'm not a Christian and don't necessarily agree with everything you discussed. However you encourage healthy debate and want to listen to others views. For that you have my respect, keep up the good work!

I believe Maynard wrote this song not necessarily from a Christian perspective, but from an outsider looking in. He's saying "you believed in Christ. You held faith through the worst trials anyone could ever face. If anyone deserves Heaven, if anyone deserves grace, it's you." I believe that is why he had the lyric of "please forgive this bold suggestion."

I’ve never been able to finish these two song with dry eyes. You can hear all the hurt in Maynard’s voice

Although Maynard has written a lot of lyrics that seem directly opposed to Christianity, he has actually stated on multiple occasions that he is not against religion ... just closed-mindedness. It has always been his mission to provoke thought and spiritual open-mindedness. He does definitely seem to have some Church-related scars and a complex relationship with Christianity ... but then again, who doesn't?

The amazing thing about music, a non-believer like me and a Christian such as yourself can get goosebumps from the same song. I admire your ability to open your mind and experience this great band called Tool.

I watched my mother die in front of me. Gasp her last breath. On the way home from that, driving through the desert I listened to these two silently...tears of understanding and comfort fell the entire time. I just watched this reaction and new tears fell, happy ones. I know his pain.

"10.000 days in the fire is long enough, you're going home" - Gets me EVERY time. Damn.

I'm not religious at all but I saw this video and needed to watch it. I appreciate how open minded you guys are and you seem like genuinely great people. A lot of the religious people in my life have been close minded, judgemental, and toxic, and it's really refreshing to see people who are so open about religion and their views without squandering other's. 💕💕

I feel when I listen to this that she wouldn't demand her wings and entry but he is speaking as though he has so much admiration for her that he feels if anyone can make such a demand it would be her. Just my thought when I listen.

My grandmother was a pillar of faith and died a horribly slow painful death at home of bone cancer and was excited about where she was going and witnessed the glory of God to the last breath. When I first heard this song when it came out I wept like a baby. It really hit home.

"There is a lot of mean Tool fans" -- heh, even Maynard would agree with that

I think i would believe more in Christianity if more people were like you instead of telling me ill burn in hell for listening to this music.. Instead of saying its the work of the devil. More Christians should be open minded, respectful, anf definitely understanding like you... Even though you may not believe or like the things that are sang about you still listen and look at it from their point of view instead of automatically assuming its satanic.

I am a devout Muslim, but I am always open to explore other religion views and respect them all. I too lost my mom as he did, but for a cancer that tormented her for a long time. However, she had always been religious, even in her deathbed. It makes me cry remembering the times when she lost her memory due to heavy chemotherapy and hallucinogenic pills to ease the pain and still cried when she forgot how to pray. So, this music is relatable in many aspects to me. Thanks for the video. Love from Uzbekistan

I like that the song "Judith" felt so cynical about Maynard's mom having faith, but years later he honors her faith so earnestly in "Wings For Marie".

Non Christian Tool/APC fan here and I just wanted to say that you guys rock!

Thanks for giving it a go and having an open mind and not simply lashing out because of challenging lyrical content. I can see why somebody would be offended, but one would only be threatened and feel the need to act in such a way if their faith was not strong, right?

Keep up the great work - I am glad the Judith vídeo popped up in my feed!

While we differ on theology greatly, I respect you. Tool is one of the many tools I use for understanding myself and the universe. 46 and 2, Right in Two, The Grudge, Schism, Lateralus, Parabol and Parabola, and so many more are all incredible songs with incredible life lessons embedded within them. The album Lateralus is a stepping stone pathway for the mind and the soul to expand and grow. Again we couldn't be farther from apart from each other theologically, but I respect you.

Atheist, musician, & metal fan here (and now a subscriber). Very much enjoying the perspective from you guys - appreciate you taking the journey into somewhat unfamiliar and even opposing musical and ideological waters. Our differences are what make us fascinating.
Would love to hear you react to Jambi by Tool.

I lost my mother last year to cancer. I'm 42 and I've listened to Tool since high school. This band's music has provided acres of inspiration to me and when I watched my mom waste into her final breaths I thought of MJK and Judith. I wanted to play wings and 10k days at the funeral parlor except it made me (and my father) cry so damn much we decided not to. This band drives a belief in a higher power for me. Music is as powerful as a drug... believe in these lyrics. They are special. This band is special....
