As an spaniard, I can tell you that this car's history is hugely related with Spain's motor industry's history. The "Ford Acts" ("Decretos Ford") meant the liberalization of the spanish motor industry, which was hugely regulated during Francisco Franco's autarchic regime. The first car to be made under that new regulation was the Fiesta. That's why the Ford Acts were called like that. That's also why the Fiesta has a spanish name ("fiesta" means "party" in spanish) and that's why as Mr Regular points out at 1:10, there's a engine option called "Valencia", which is the region of Spain where the car is built.

We did get the Mark 1 Fiesta in the US. My parents owned one for a time. It was the first car I remember next to my uncle's Mark 1 Scirocco. The US Fiestas are rare though. I imagine it was Ford's answer to the Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon

Excellent review. One small point though: The Fiesta was never a Golf competitor; Ford had the Escort for that. The Fiesta went up against the Volkswagen Polo, which you also didn't get in 'Murka.

Night In The Woods reference! I never thought. But then again it might be the best rust belt video game ever.

I’m 5 years late on this video but there’s something that really moved me. The middle finger to the father who’s cheap with hugs and generous with discouragement.
This really motivates me because for most of my life I have surrendered to the discouragement. I was about to do that with my 3rd gen prelude but I’m ready to give it another shot

Wait...are those literally a bunch of slots that JUST HOLD INDIVIDUAL COINS?

Ford most definitely sold the Fiesta in the USA before the sixth gen. My mom had an '80 that she bought because of the gas crisis. I believe they sold them here from 1978-1980.

I remember the twist out ashtrays :D My granddad had this car in blue. The most powerful thing these have is the windshield washer pump, they spray over the roof onto the car behind you.

i love early 90s and late 80s econoboxes. So light and huge engine bays, just right for swapping in an engine that has no business being married to that body.

3:07 It is actually a 1980s VW Polo. A class below the Golf. Other cars in that class include: Fiat Uno/Punto, Peugeot 205, Citroen AX/Saxo, Opel Corsa, Renault 5/Clio, Seat Ibiza, Austin/Rover Metro, Skoda Favorit/Felicia.

Golf class vehicles are the Ford Escort, Fiat Tipo/Bravo, Peugeot 309/306, Opel/Vauxhall Kadett/Astra, Citroen ZX/Xsara, Seat Leon, Rover 200/25, Renault 19/Megane, Alfa Romeo 33/145/146.

That finishing line was pretty motivational because I was having those thoughts about my Ranger. Its only a 2000 but theres some little things on it that need fixing, and really wouldn't be too difficult, but it takes a lot of time and effort to fix.

I had a 1980 Ford Fiesta in the states, it never ran the entire time I had it. So, we did get a variant of the Mk I at least. And it was hideous because they modified it to fit in round sealed beam headlights when they brought it to the US. It was replaced by the Festiva.

Mr Regular I would like to apply for the position of Research Assistant when it opens up for your channel.
Yes, the USA DID get this car. Way back in 1977. When the CAFE mileage rules started to come into play. (in stock form it was rated at 42mpg highway) We lost the car after 1980 when the CAFE rules started enforcing a "domestic content" rule which classified the Fiesta as a "captive import" and disqualified using it to offset things like the Mercury Grand Marquis. The USA version had the cross-flow 1600cc engine from the Cortina (the block of which was the one designated for the Formula Ford open-wheeled racing series) The USA ones were generally built in either Germany or Spain. The UK actually got a series with a Lotus twincam version of the 1600, special wheels, etc. And a big giant helping of torque steer.
