Would you ever get a monkey tailed skink?

The beauty of running a woodshop is you can custom make enclosures. Current project is two story bearded dragon enclosure with a subterranean hide and bottom storage cabinet. Measurements are 64" tall x 44" wide x 28" deep.
I'm pretty sure it's overkill but it's fun and Scooby seems to like it.

Both I, and my Baby Australian Eastern Bluetongue "Igneel" really liked this one! He was sitting in my hand watching along, happily *blepping* away!

Always loved these guys. They look like something out of Star Wars.

Yes I love monkey tailed skinks! They are very high on my list of dream reptiles. I would love to see the enclosure build!

They are so cool! I love their green eyes, and their boxy heads.
And they do look like they’re thinking. And I will say they do look expensive. And definitely show us how you make their enclosure. I’d love to see the three together and see how they interact.

My man! Let’s see that enclosure! It’s so satisfying to watch a good build come together.

They are absolutely gorgeous reps!!! My local store has one currently & I always stop to watch him for a bit when picking up feeders. Definitely on my list of dream reps!!!

I’ve always wanted a green iguana because I want a large, diurnal lizard that’ll use vertical space. Iguanas are illegal in Florida now, so maybe I’ll get a monkey tailed skink eventually. They aren’t diurnal and they’re not as iconic, but they still seem very cool.

I don't know why but I love when unique pets like this have common names like George or Juan lol!

Great vid. Last year when I was trying to fill an arboreal enclosure, these were at the top of my list. Nearly impossible to get. Amazing species.

Great video! Glad husbandry for these has come such a long way! When I was a kid in the 90s I remember our local pet shop had one. I thought it was so cool! I think you can imagine where this is going though…it was exactly what you would think of a for profit 90s pet store. They didn’t really have any business having one of these...let alone most other animals. It was of course expensive, and every time we went in to get crickets it was still there, and just looked worse every time. Probably wild caught. Also sadly it probably passed away in their care…or lack there of, but we don’t know for sure. Glad to see you’re so interested in them and looks like they will receive great care with you.

Great thing about expensive animals is that owners tend to do their research and give them extra good care 😊 I just read they can live 25-30 years! So it seems like the money is worth it. Probably an animal you can take to college if you are young too. I'd love to see the build. I hope yours do have babies at some point so we can see them--they should with the nice enclosure they will have. Also--arugula and wild mustard and kale and collards are the easiest plants in the WORLD to grow (the first two are weeds in my Washington state garden, reseeding themselves everywhere). Even in Canada, probably can grow year-round if you make a hoophouse. They grow incredibly fast--even a 4' x 6' bed would produce TONS of greens for many months. Save you some money now that veggies are so expensive. Also great sauteed with garlic and put on pizza and pasta Kale and Collards will get tiny little worms in the summer when cabbage butterflies are out, but I'm sure the skinks won't mind. I'm sure they would love the flowers of the plants too. ooops, I am nerding out. 😋

Thank you for doing this one. I had several back in the 90s when they were much cheaper and imported more often. I was so worried about them that I tried starting a private organization called Corucia Conservation International, or something like that. Maybe it was the CCA and not the CCI. Whatever it was, I never was able to put the proper time in, but I really wanted them to survive in the wild as a species. And in captivity, and to have some controls on exports. They weren't being valued for the amazing creatures that they are.

It appears that a more appropriate status and price has been given to them. I'm so glad! They are truly unique and deserve the best.

Wicked Cool! It will be interesting to see future content on the social aspects of these skinks. There are so many options in the reptile world that are suggested not to Co-hab so its nice to see content on some species that it's actually recommended.
