This game was a dead rubber for us as we had already secured qualification. The match in San siro which was won through a wonderful Rui costa through ball, and Sheva finish was probably the defining moment in making us believe we could win the champions league that season. That season, the champions league deployed the format of 2 consecutive group stages and then teams would proceed to the knockout rounds. Across the 12 group stage matches, Milan beat Bayern Munich, Deportivo La coruna, Real Madrid, and B.Dortmund in all of the games that were critical to qualification. And then proceed to beat both Ajax and Inter without losing a tie, and then Juventus on penalties without conceding a goal and effectively down to ten men in extra time due to roque junior being injured. SIXTEEN matches played just to reach the final. A truly monumental achievement, and one of the happiest football seasons of my entire life. The most memorable moment being Inzaghi's lob over the Ajax goalkeeper and Tomasson tapping it in on the line to make it 3-2 very late in the game in san siro. To this day, the emotions and atmosphere inside the stadium experienced as a 19 year old is almost impossible to describe ⚫🔴

Man what a great players did Real Madrid have. Ronaldo Nazario- the most talented player ever, Zidane- WC winner and 1 of the best playmakers ever, R Carlos- the most offensive LB ever, Makelele- 1 of the best DMs ever, Raul, Figo. Funny that AC Milan won UCL that year in 2003 ;)) milan had some great players, but much fewer than RM
