Florida’s new alimony law took affect July 1, 2023. Before the law went into effect permanent alimony existed in Florida. Also at that time, durational alimony was available to go up through the entire length of the marriage.

With this new game changing law, divorce attorneys are now grappling with the fact that permanent alimony no longer exists in Florida and durational alimony is maxed out at around half of the length of the marriage.

One even more intense change in the alimony law in Florida is the fact that Florida divorce attorneys no can only advocate for durational alimony amounts that are equal to the reasonable need of the requesting spouse or 35% of the difference between the spouses net incomes, which ever is lower.

Orlando divorce lawyers Sean Smallwood offers this quick and full video on Florida’s new alimony law in 2024 and his prediction that this will place huge Kaps on the amount of spousal support that people can obtain in Florida.

Any person should be ashamed for asking for alimony. Especially if you are asking for a divorce from someone just because you love someone else.

Miami paid for two family attorneys to file for divorce from abuser who is trapping me here both attorneys quit. It’s been three years. They dragged it out and did nothing. What’s my recourse and do not say the bar or pro bono. Neither will help me.

This is huge for men who want to get married. I know men in unhappy marriages who say it’s cheaper to keep her.

I say that it's still WAY too much. Why does HIS obligation extend beyond the marriage? What is SHE obligated to provide AFTER the marriage is over? I will NEVER get married., and divorce law is the reason why.

Its still way too much. No one deserves to profit from anothers hard work and gifts after divorce. Alimony is evil.

I think alimony should be illegal....it's all about the money. It's a business.if people get divorced then it's there choice.

If I remembering this correctly, the whole point of alimony was because back in the day it was less likely for a woman to be married twice because she was considered tainted and due to not working could not support herself we live in a very different time I believe that alimony should be abolished completely but it’s good we’re making progress
