We took our 9-year old daughter on her first backpacking trip a few weeks ago on Beaty Spot. We slept in the meadow at the base of Unaka and she couldn’t believe how quiet it was when we turned off the headlamps- “This has to be the quietest place in the world 🤫”.

I've been sectioning the AT for 15 years. I started with a friend who always seemed so unprepared and out of shape, always complaining about the weight, the rain - you name it. We parted ways at Clingman's Dome, and I've never hiked another mile with anyone. A committee of one!
