"It's a casual train vlog" - that's not just what I'm here for, it's what I stan. I *LOVE* a casual train vlog.

Add both a funicular & and an incline railway, a special guest, and a trip down to the water? And some infrastructure as well? This is premium grade Downie Live Love!

This is 100% what I follow for, your raw & infectious enthusiasm for this sort of trip.

Trains to a giant waterfall? Count me in! Was a swell time Mike!

The "Via Rail" service between Niagara Falls, Ontario and Toronto was actually the beginning/end of Amtrak's New York City / Toronto service on the Maple Leaf. When the train was in Ontario, it was operated by a Via Rail crew but all of the equipment was Amtrak's.

The classic DownieLive video: visit to an interesting place by train with a special guest and a bathroom tour. Ticked all the boxes and was a masterpiece. Such a nice way to start the weekend, a little trip with Mike. I don't know where you are going next week, but I am already looking forward to coming along.

Having grown up with GO trains I really appreciated the insight. Did not know those details about it. Very interesting. It was so empty when you were on it. If you go during rushhour it is much busier. Also, during that time the upper level is a quiet zone. This makes great a bribe when taking kids to the R.O.M. They always want to ride in the top but they only can if they are quiet. On the ride home we look for the accessible car. The reason being that this is where they announce the stop locations from. Which is also fun for the kids and gives them the chance to ask questions.
Love Niagara Falls.
Thanks for sharing this video.

I also have been to Niagara Falls too that summer in 1993. It was so beautiful. I will never forget. The falls is awesome and breath taking. I said to myself I am where superman was flying. Cool!!!

1. Vancouver's own West Coast Express - about which you've never done a video, BTW - uses cars very similar to those GO uses. One car of each WCX train used to have a coffee bar - nice for a good "cuppa cap" in the Big V - but those disappeared some time before COVID. GO developed the cars in the 1970s because they needed more capacity than the old single-level cars offered. They were built at Thunder Bay by, successively, Hawker Siddeley Canada, CanCar Rail-UTDC, Bombardier, and now Alstom.
2. Vancouver has double-deck buses very similar to those GO uses, as does Ottawa.
3. I was on the "Maid of the Mist" once, on my own visit to Niagara Falls in 2010. I went all the way there and back by GO train, on a Sunday. The "Maid of the Mist" was also featured briefly in the 2003 movie "Bruce Almighty".

The WEGO buses are great to get around Niagara Falls. Especially to the attractions that are outside the tourist area. And the Green Line will take you from the train/bus station right to the Table Rock Visitor Centre. There are a couple of stops along the way that will let you off a short walk from the hotels near Casino Niagara and Clifton Hill and you can take the Inclined Railway to the hotels on the Fallsview Casino side. Probably not ideal if you're a family with kids and a lot of luggage, but if you're a couple or traveling alone with a small rolling bag or a backpack it's great...and cheaper than a taxi.

It's also worth mentioning that most of the hotels charge a lot for on site parking, so if you can get to Niagara on the train or train and bus combo you're going to save a considerable amount of money if you're staying for a few days.

Great video, my girlfriend and I LOVE going to The Falls. We make a trip there part of any trip we take to Ontario.

I went to the falls for the first time in the winter, I highly recommend a winter visit as well! Very cool to see the falls partially frozen!

I’m glad you got to the falls, Michael. I’ve lived in the Niagara region all my life and spent a considerable amount of time in Niagara Falls, including fishing down at the Niagara Gorge. I hope you enjoyed your visit!

Well Mike it's great to see you travelling again away from your usual haunts around Vancouver and British Columbia. I long for the day to get outa Melbourne again. In 1995 I had the pleasure of viewing Niagara Falls AND Toronto's CN Tower and rail terminal from 30000 feet on a beautiful fall day during a flight from Denver to Boston. Thanks for sharing your ground level experience and I'm looking forward to your ongoing travels across your beautiful country by ViaRail. As an aside, you probably have heard that the earth moved for me and a fairly large area of southeastern Australia on Wednesday last. Only my second shaky earth experience of any significance and, apart from adrenaline rush, no harm done and, fortunately, no deaths or injuries reported. The wall of a hamburger joint came down in one of Melbourne's inner suburbs but no one was close by due to our lockdown. Cheers from Michael.

Niagara Falls....always great times there, even in winter...yes, it's fun in winter too.
The CN Tower....where my friend wouldn't go near the glass floor panels. Annoyed her no end when I jumped up and down on them (not a small guy...lol).
Did not know there was a train to Niagara from Toronto....but I've made that drive several times and yes, once you're away from Toronto...the scenery is pretty cool.
So far, the only place I've crossed an international border on foot....parked on the NY side and walked over the Rainbow Bridge, had dinner and by the time I walked back to the US, the cool light show was underway. The Skylon tower is nice....but it's no CN Tower. Haha. Looking forward to the next video!!

As someone from the falls, it's always cool to see other people's reactions to something I've seen a hundred times 😂

My first time travelling abroad was to Toronto, Canada from May 1993 to July 1993 and I travelled on the Go Train to Downtown Toronto at the waterfront on Canada Day to watch the fire works. I really like Canada.
