Honestly, the biggest draw of that Emudeck machine is that it looks like a Dreamcast.

The dock experience is still the weak point for me. The other day I was playing a game in handheld mode, docked it, turned on my controller, and while the steam menus worked, it wouldn't let me input anything in the game itself. I had to undock, save the game, redock, close the game, and the relaunch the game so it worked with the controller.

All of that is to say that while the dock experience is slowly getting better, it's still the main source of jank for me.

So excited to be here. I subbed, liked and thank you! A 45 year old guy with three young kids. I haven't been in the gaming for about 30 years. We got a switch about 2 years ago and played a lot of breath of the wild Mario Odyssey and such. The kids have been wanting to play all these other games and we couldn't figure out what system to go with and then I stumbled across the SteamDeck! As you can imagine I've been listening to a lot of channels like yours trying to figure out if we should Fork over the cash to get a referb or a new LCD or an OLED. I have a feeling a large portion of people coming in to find a steam deck are folks like me that don't know all the acronyms or even understand all the achievements that steam has made. I would ask that channels like yours when using acronyms try to quickly say what they stand for. And the limiting feature you mentioned say what it is how to locate it before you go forward. I think those little bits will help to onboard people faster and be more satisfied with their experience and be more likely not to give up
their SteamDeck for another plug and play console. Thanks for what you do!

Deck is the single game player's dream come true. I've always wondered though what if it used cartdridges as well or psp type disc?

Hey Bill, I think the reason that the resolution setting per game is in the cog wheel and not Quick Access menu is do to technical limitations of the compositor, Gamescope. I believe it sets the resolution as part of the command to handle the rendering and can't be changed dynamically.

Maybe it can get a refractor and allow for dynamic switching of resolution later and who knows what other neat things can be implemented.

Square needs to do this with games like Ehrgiez and Einhander. Just a collection of their games that were not FF or DQ and not necessarily RPG. Capcom is making good on nostalgia along with Konami.

Rarely did the verified status not work but there have been cases. If something is unsupported I usually use Proton DB. Still need to wrap my head around Proton GE, never seems to work for me. Trying to get Ys Origins to work is a chore so I just jumped to Ys 8 which is verified

You know, I’d really like to see a nice collection for racing games. I mean I’ve had my share of various fighting game collections over the years. How’s about a Need for Speed collection? Or better still, Burnout.

8:30 Issue with putting it in the quick access menu is that those settings are supposed to be applied without a restart. It'd be really confusing to put something in there that works differently from everything else. Personally I'd prefer to just have another icon next to the gear and controller icon for resolution. Or short of that, put select resolution at the top of the dropdown for the gear icon. Currently it's gear icon -> Properties -> General -> Resolution -> Dropdown, which is just insane and whoever designed that UX should be fired. I think a problem with Valve in general is that they lack UX designers high in the food chain and it seems to be older devs with a 90s understanding of building user experience calling the shots.

If we get more native games on Linux that would be amazing as Proton is nice nice but its not really 100% optimized when compared to native.

Personnally, I would like to see the external screen resolution parameter work on games too, not just Deck UI.

This said, I hope Steam Deck 2 comes with eGPU support. I could enjoy connecting it to something similar to the Minisforum oculink dock... with my own gpu... Behind my 4k tv... 😊

Don't know if you've heard Bill but French developer Spiders (creators of Greedfall and Steelrising. Fantastic games, fantastic developer) have been going through a huge missmanagement issue and are doing a strike.

I wonder if the PS5 Pro, the Switch 2 and the potential PlayStation handheld will squeeze out the resources allowcated for the Steamdeck optimization, especially since PlayStation and Nintendo overshadow the Steamdeck in terms of sales. I guess it's ultimately the accountants and the CFOs wholl make those decisions for the big companies.
