I'm currently using my 35k anniversary night at a property that runs $180 to $540 per night (base room).

Upgraded to a suite w/ a private pool via status :)

Got the spg personal card last year around this time, bonus was 35k spg points. I used the bonus to stay at an Aloft hotel in S Korea for 5 nights. It was great! Thought about canceling, but then in August then introduced a free night...so here I am. I got the Hilton Aspire instead of the spg luxury card. I don’t think it’s even close...

Unless I am misunderstanding things, I think the SPG Luxury or whatever the new name is is getting devalued? It allowed free night for 50k points; however if Bonvoy is upping the cap from 60k to 80k and high as 100k during peak time, I wonder if it's worth it for people who don't invest as much time in getting the best deals. Also the points are being devalued, since they are upping the cap. So disappointing tbh, it was a no brainer card but now I might have to consider just going for 3 aspire cards and doing something else for my amex card slots...

There's A LOT to unpack about the changes according to Nerd wallet.

For instance the SPG business fee is going $95->$125 which may impact "keeper" status. This was going to be a long term card for me but now maybe not considering amex card limits. It just becomes less appealing.

I may eventually have to go to Hilton as SPG Gold Status doesnt even get you free breakfast. Getting free breakfast is a big deal to me. It seems that the SPG/Marriott has been going downhill since the Merger. I do want to test out the free anniversary night to see where and how I can use it. If I cant use the free night at a decent place in NYC or a nice place elsewhere, I may just get rid of the SPG card and go to Hilton.

I’m thinking Hilton honors for 2019 for myself, no annual fee.

Now it’s $600 a year for the purple credit card.

I’m thinking about getting the SPG personal card again and here’s why:
Cards I have
SPG Biz: Free Night In July
SPG Lux:Free Night in July
Marriott Perm+: Free Night in July
Ritz Carlton: Free Night in July
SPG Lux credit up to $300 fee Free nights in July
And I’d reapply for SPG personal now I would have to wait one full year which would give me one free night to put towards July 2020.

So for me it would be the most beneficial to do this because I can combine all of my certificates

Huh. Chase's replacement for the Marriott Premier Plus is the Bonvoy Boundless. The MPP is a reasonably classy-looking card with a dark brushed metal look. The new BB looks kind of cartoonish. Unfortunate.

Off topic, got a message today after my application online for Sapphire “Thank you for your request, unfortunately we are unable to approve your application. We will provide more detailed information in 7-10 days that explains the reasons for this decision” it even says on the Chrome Tab decision declined. Called your auto-bot # to Chase a few hours later and go the 30 day message. What are your thoughts on this Sebby? Under 5/24 and great credit. Just thinking Chase is done with me because I’ve worked them over pretty good without them getting a penny of interest.

Love your channel, you’ve earned my family thousands of dollars in free travel!!! Thank you!!!

Have the AMEX SPG, will keep it for the short term 2 years plus, afterwards we will see how the landscape is.

You forgot to mention about the new $125 annual fee that is a net increase now

Sebby: I applied for SPG Luxury pretty much around the same time it came out. I don't have any other Marriott/SPG cards. Do you think I would be eligible for the SPG Personal card if I apply before Feb 12th?

Thanks Sebby. I'd go for the SPG card but I'm not eligible. I got the SPG Luxury in August and just upgraded my Marriott a little bit back.

You are really knowledgeable and I just need to see what news you have, no need to read the blogs :)

Hey Sebby,
Could you outline a strategy for acquiring multiple SPG and Marriott cards (personal and business) for purposes of stacking in a two player situation?
Thanks
JC

sucks I'm a thin file with sub 700 credit(just starting out). Not big on travel but could see myself doing so if I can travel for free. My current view on travel is why pay to go someplace all be it new to do more or less the same things. But If I can go/come and stay for free; or at a sharply reduced price why not?

Hey Sebby, what do you think about SoFi and their checkings account as well as their investing account?

Hi Sebby! I applied the SPG Luxury card last Nov when I received the promotion to get 125000 pts after spending $5000 for 3 months. I already got the bonus but am wondering if I could also get a sign up bonus for SPG Amex personal card before the deadline of Feb 12. I have never had SPG Amex personal. Will appreciate your advice.

If I am 3/24 on Chase and have no intention of getting the business cards, would you recommend getting the Amex SPG. I am also considering the SW Priority card which would close out my 5/24. Any advice appreciated!!
