Cry Me a River JULIE LONDON (with lyrics)

Covered by some excellent singers (including Ella Fitzgerald) this version by Julie London is generally considered the best. It was written by Arthur Hamilton who had many anecdotes about the song. He had never heard the phrase, "Cry me a river", but when he did, he thought it was the perfect response to someone who had broken your heart - much better than "eat your heart out!" He was advised to drop the word "plebeian" from the lyrics but ignored the advice. His only concern was that listeners would hear "Crimea" instead of "cry me a" - but once he had the music, he said, it became "a non-issue".
