The question that is missing in the Man vs bear debate.

The debate about if women felt more comfortable with a man or bear was hotly discussed over the last week and I kept not hearing a question. If women would feel more comfortable with a bear, then what can I or men do to help that situation. I spend a lot of time on the trails, often solo hiking and will run into women and I have always hoped that I was making them comfortable by acknowledging them and giving them space but I don't know for sure so I thought it best to ask. #hiking #relatable #outdoors #manvsbear #conversation #safety #women #men

Thank you! I appreciate a greeting, maybe just a hello, a wave or a nod and a smile, but otherwise just go about your hike as usual. I’d also say that the farther from civilisation you get, the greater need for a proper greeting.

Wow, I came to the comments to say how great I think your video is and I'm amazed at the hatred toward women I'm seeing. I will look at your other videos and read comments to see if I see the same names, or your video must have been shared in an incel group. I have a hard time believing all of these chest-thumping, "women suck" men follow you so I'm leaning toward some jerk went running to his friends because he got his wittle feewings hurt and they all had to come back him up. BUT! maybe I'm wrong. Maybe these guys do follow you. Which is almost as creepy.

You could wear bear bells. Man Bells. Then female hikers know you are not trying to be sneaky, are not actually a bear, since they don't wear bells. Safer for you and safer for everyone on the trail.

Instinct tells me you're going to ignore all the males in this comment section who are acting as if women don't have, usually many, good reasons to be very afraid of men. So I will say, thank you for the consideration! I'm glad there are men like you in the world. As a solo female hiker, what you do is what I would recommend. The only thing I can think is probably a little obvious but keep eye contact very short. A brief verbal, "how's it going" and eyes ahead and moving is a good way to feel non threatening.

People like you are not the problem, the problem is that you don't get to choose the man you are trapped with becaise there are so many terrible things that a human beign can do that a bear couldn't. That's the problem! Thank you for being a sweet and kind soul, truly and honestly maybe in another world we wouldn't have to worry about things like this but because humans are flawed and apparently other men don't want to see what the real problem is so it only goes to further the initial problem! Thank you for asking ❤ it sounds weird, but any casual greeting with an added head bow/single nod type of motion goes a long way. I think the main thing for me is to maintain the same pace - it shows our presence hasn’t changed your objective.
