On the latest Hindenburg Research report that claims SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband invested in REITs linked to Gautam Adani’s brother, Vinod Adani, Sucheta says this damages the market regulator’s reputation. She says, “At that level, when you realise that you have invested in a fund that is being investigated, you should’ve gone to the Board, or to the finance ministry”, asking if she should be recused.

Abhinandan delves into his experiences with tax authorities, and an instance where he had to prove the identity of Newslaundry’s editor-in-chief, Raman Kirpal.

The conversation then shifts to the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Manisha says, “In some cases, journalists give out gory details to jolt people or to make a news newsworthy in a country where rape cases are so common.”

Raman talks about how the media has politicised the case, while Anand discusses the rural vs urban space factor that impacts how rape cases are reported.

I believe that just like in Western countries, Indian girls should feel empowered to carry pepper spray and defend themselves. It's crucial to understand that physical strength isn't everything; technique matters. Striking vulnerable areas like the eyes, nose, or groin can be effective. Instead of slapping or punching, using elbow strikes can really stun an attacker. Creativity using everyday items like bangles and hairpins to your advantage is also great idea. Also there are many good self defense videos out there!

Moreover, we need to have more open discussions about sex in India. In many Western countries, sex shops and adult entertainment are normalized, and they tend to have lower rates of sexual violence. This suggests that addressing sexual urges through healthy outlets, along with better mental health awareness, could help reduce incidents of assault.

It's frustrating to hear people blame women for their clothing choices or for being out late. In the West, women often wear even less and are out at all hours, yet the rates of sexual violence are comparatively lower. This highlights that the issue lies in societal attitudes and the need for a shift in perspective. We must grow as a society and change how we view these issues to create a safer environment for everyone
