Overall very good tutorial. In my honest opinion, the structural order and responsibilities of components is wrong. Index-page instances Calendar component, which internally fetches the data. Meanwhile, Index-page introduces the DayTemplate used to render a day. Architectural concepts were not most likely the scope of this tutorial, but I'd still not vote for mixed approach like this. Parent/Child responsibilities should be kept clear as well as data/view separation.
