Hoarder to MINIMALIST| 4 Years of Decluttering Before and After Today, we are going to take a look at the last 4 years of my minimalist journey and see my home's before and after. Since decluttering around 85% of our family's possessions, we have seen incredible benefits!! Our home is easier to keep clean, we save money, and have more time for the things that matter most to us, to name a few! What's most amazing to see, however, is HOW I approached decluttering, WHAT I chose to get rid of, and WHEN I felt like I started reaping the rewards of decluttering. Thanks for joining me!! I hope you subscribe!

Decluttering is harder than you think because of good memories, health at the time, other commitments - so well done. Decluttering is an ongoing process which really never ends. 82 year old minimalist. 😁👍

Over the last 4 years I've taken truck loads to goodwill, the dump and given stuff away to neighbors. I was constantly at the stores just buying stuff to buy stuff. Now I enjoy my clean, simple, open space so much I REALLY think before adding ANYTHING to our home. You're doing great!!

I've spent weeks and weeks cleaning and decluttering my elderly parents' home. It's hard to part with things, but please don't leave your hoarding and clutter for someone else to deal with. Most likely, they'll have to deal it with during one of the worst times of their lives: when you've passed on, and they are in mourning and already emotionally overwhelmed, and it will become their responsibility right at the one moment when they have the least time, energy and emotional fortitude to do it. It's tragic and exhausting and it hurts!

My cookbooks are long gone. It is so easy to find great recipes online. I did create a recipe holder 3 ring binder with cooking dividers. For the recipes I truly love, I print them, slide them into a plastic sleeve and into my binder. It’s my best system ever

Enjoyed this video immensely. But i especially like the honesty of admitting to being overwhelmed and then recognizing if it takes a week to do, so be it. Im in my 70s, overwhelmed and doing a little every day. I get discouraged because i see little progress. You give me hope!

I like bins. It helps with adhd, and “pantry blindness.” My kids can go to the snack bin, bread bin, breakfast bin, whatever, and see what’s available without being distracted by the whole of the pantry. It’s also great for sticky things like syrup or honey to be in those clear bins. And lastly, a lovely pantry is inspiring and peaceful. We all need inspiration and peace.

This shows how most of us had to go though many decluttering trips to get to where we are :) It is not often you can go from a big house full off stuff to a small studio with almost nothing, it is a process that teaches you what is imported to your life and your life alone <3

This video really shows how minimalizing is a layered PROCESS! So helpful to revisit spaces over time and with gained experience! I love your channel!

I don't agree with some of the pantry organizing methods: 1. The canned goods are in bins so you can't readily see what you have. Do you want to pick up each can to see what it is? 2. If you decant dry goods into jars, don't forget to cut the instructions out of the box and slide it into the jar so it can be read. 3. Organizing doesn't have to mean putting items into bins or jars or whatever. It is possible to be organized with things just sitting on the shelf! It's not all about making it look pretty, it's about function.

I just came across your channel and this is just what I need right now. My mom passed away 2 years ago and I have been in depression since then. My house is an absolute mess and needs attention desperately. Seeing someone else go through being overwhelmed is a great help. Thank you for being vulnerable.

I am not a minimalist to this extent. But the magical thing about minimalism is, things just stay organised. Effortlessly. Because there is not that much to create a mess - and they are easy to put away fast, because there is actually space for them in the cupboards.

When I first started decluttering, it is actually shocking how much junk I was storing, that I never used. And now that I have less (I think I got rid of about 50% - I didn't have a specific goal in mind), I enjoy opening every drawer and closet. I enjoy cleaning, because I don't have to think about what to do with all the clutter first.

It is not so much about having as little as possible - it is about having the appropriate amount of things for the space, and a functional system to keep it organised.

Years ago when I first realized I needed to do better in organizing my house with 4 children that were born in 5 years. You took me back instantly when you said, "nothing on the floor". My actual first step was "nothing on the table" Day 2 was "nothing on the floor". Sad to say 2 took me weeks. But I'm so glad that myself and my children were able to build that life skill. Love your channel. Minimalism has been a lifelong journey for me. I'm glad to have found a friend along the journey.

I ❤ this video!! I love how real it is. With kids waking up in the middle, with stuff falling on the floor. But especcially the beginning clips of the areas look just like mine and i'm sooo happy to see not everyone has this perfect minimalist, organized home...

What I see is not a minimalist home, but a very neat maximalist house. It turned out very beautifully and has a wonderful atmosphere ❤

Your 4 1/2 year ago self was so inspiring! Can you imagine going back and having to start from scratch like that again? Thank you to you from that long ago for beginning the process and not giving up! (Even with a couple burnout breaks). Imagine if we all just started now, we could learn, grow, and get better at it over time, and eventually end up in a place that is perfect for us!

Real life moment that I loved: When you went back into the kitchen and showed us your cute little girl on the floor in the pasta! Real life is messy, that's why we're constantly cleaning! My husband never got that until I was so sick, I had to stay in bed for 3 days. He kept the kids and dogs alive, so I'm good with that. But oh the mess my house became! He realized that I spend a LOT of time every day cleaning up! And he became thankful! Great video! I feel inspired to finally tackle my crazy pantry! It is crazy tall (I think my house was built by Amazons), and very deep shelves where products go to die! I need to devise a better plan! Thanks!
