I have lived in the Upstate of South Carolina for 19 years and up until about 3 years ago I believed that I lived in Heaven on earth. What changed? The population changed or, rather, it exploded and it is not letting up. The traffic is awful and the days of the patient fellow motorist are gone and have been replaced by inconsiderate drivers who block intersections, run red lights and dart through traffic with no regard for safety. I gave up motorcycling because the risks became too great. It is damn depressing.

I hate videos like this. We are FULL.
As a SC native, the thing we HATE about transplants are the constant criticism of our food, our schools and our general way of life.
Our food goes back to days of slavery & combines many African & southern traditions. Our schools were great until they became overcrowded. Your vehicles are charged as property tax & the more expensive=higher taxes. Btw: My grandfather has pulled MANY gators out of Lake Murray to relocate them elsewhere. Gators traveled the tributaries before there was a lake there. I have ancestors that are buried in a cemetery under lake Murray.

I've lived in the midlands of SC for 50 years. I also am a retired state law enf officer. People in SC can't drive worth a crap and the heat is miserable. The fall is the best, we love our guns, we love our football...but we don't like the overcrowding that's starting to take place. We don't need blue state attitudes in. Red state.

I escaped from CA and moved to SC! I adore it here. I'm in the upstate area near Townville. I can see Georgia from my window across Lake Hartwell. But don't come here, we're full up now!!!

My wife already hit two deer since we have been here(7yrs). We moved from CT to Beaufort and LOVE it here!! We miss the Italian food from up there and of course being between NYC and Boston was nice. It's just easy living down here, weather is always sunny and warm and people are nice and laid back. No more gloomy cold winters. Can't even remember the last time the sun didn't come out during the day. Not like the week long rain fests in CT.

We actually have more annual precipitation in the northeast. But our humus soil composition which is porous drains well. The reason for retention ponds is because of the kind of soil in SC. Piedmont red clay is mostly sedimentary rock, isn't porous and doesn't drain well. So heavy rainfall creates mud slides and reddish standing water.

Drivers are pretty bad in the country too, no matter how fast you are going you will have someone tailgating you

Moved to Lexington in June, and we've definitely seen a gator in the Congaree river!

Actually, South Carolina is replacing Florida as a fast growing state for retirees. It seems it has become too expensive to retire in Florida so people are setting up retirement in South Carolina.

I know this is going to sound weird I just sold my home on Long Island to move to Pickens County South Carolina, it took nearly 9 months to sell my home. That’s after a buyer put down money on the house. It was a special case the person who bought my home, took a 50% loan from a bank and the government gave them a 50% grant but with all that extra paperwork and legwork it took nine months which almost financially ruined me and my wife. For reasons I would rather not speak about, but yes, New York sucks

There are tons of gators in the Waterer River which is in Kershaw County. Kershaw County is in the Piedmont region. I only mention it because a couple of gators tried to tip over my kayak. That was the last time I kayaked there.

@4:26 I tell you no lie, nearly every community I went to had a police car. I was wondering why.

If you're over 65 you get a homestead exemption on your home taxes

Alligators have been found in the Saluda River and in Lake Murray. Regardless of how they get there, you should be aware of the possibility.

My father and I moved here almost 4 years ago now. My dad wanted to retire at the beach and I wanted a change of scenery. Coming from Arizona the humidity was the big difference. However the temp norms are basically the same other than that. We both lived in Calif before and didn't want anything to do with that overpriced, left living. Were more conservative. Anyway....we love it here! Love the South and the people. Love the warm ocean water. Love the trees.

When we moved here we were immediately impressed with the Southern hospitality. :) We have seen an alligator lying on a boulder by the river at the Congaree River Walk. Years ago we had a tornado that downed huge trees in our neighborhood only. I doubt it was even on the news.

Those are graveyards not cemeteries. I learned the difference of the two on a tour of Charleston SC. 👍🏾😁

As a tow truck operator, I couldn’t help but laugh that they call them “hookers” 😂 not something you hear up in the northeast
