Mark Twain and his friend, the reverend Joseph Twitchell, visited Bermuda in 1877. While there they happened to have a conversation with a middle-aged man, whose name wasn't Mr. Smith, at a cottage on the edge of a town. Mr. Smith had problems with rats and had set out a trap for them. Unfortunately some neighbor cats had also found the trap. This lead to their demise and caused unhappiness and local court involvement with the neighbors. These neighbor's families had been friends for generations, but no more.
