It looks like a new root, however looks very healthy and will bloom for you in a near future! Good luck and happy growing.

It looks like a root. Flower spikes are a little bit thinner looking ( I think but i might be wrong as i had only my aeridies houlletiana blooming, I am still waiting on aerides falcata to give me some flowers 😊). However if she is already throwing new roots then she is adjusting really fast to your environment 😀.

Keep your fingers crossed for us here in Virginia that all my buds don’t decide to “go south😢.” We are supposed to have 7 degrees F on Wednesday night. Am going to pull all my Ladies into the center of the room even though we have Venetian blinds. Something just says, the radiant coolness from the windows at that temp might be just be too rude. I finally have been able to get my humidity up to the mid to high 40% and hope to get it up a bit higher once my next ultrasonic humidifier arrives Monday or Tuesday. Aiming for a constant of high 50s to 60s. Next summer I’ll be moaning about high humidity.
Sure hope your area is not getting slammed with the Arctic blast as we are.

I'd say it is probably a root, Aerides typically bloom in late spring or early summer.

I think it's a root judging by the silvery shine it has (but then again I could be miles off 😁

Quick and very embarrassing question. One of my rescue Ladies has shed a large center leaf. I suspected she might have had crown rot when I brought her home. Is crown rot always fatal? Should I just give up on her now even though lower leaves are still firm and even the spikes are forging on?
I’ve sent a photo to you.
